FLYERS   3     WINGS   1

A great old time defensive struggle!  Both goalies – winning goalie Billy Schaugg and the Wings Kris “King” Arthur were outstanding in nets!  Scoring machine Trevor Wrobel with the deuce for the Flyers.  Army veteran Eddie Sudzina with the Flyers initial tally.  Continuing his season scoring binge – Paul “Stork” Erikson with the lone Wings marker.  The Wings were extremely hampered by the early first period exit of their top gun Rob Rowling, who picked up a slash, hold and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties all in the last five minutes of the first period.  He was well rested for game two, as you will see below.

SHARKS   2      BRUINS   2

Another goaltenders battle!  Dar and Ben Alcandro put on a show for the two people in attendance!  The Mike’s – Miller and Garlick score for the Fish.  Jimmy “Jets” Galloway with both Bruins markers.  A little history here – back in the mid 70’s, I used to work with Jimmy Galloway’s Dad and uncle at the old Chatham’s Supermarkets.  I worked at the warehouse and they worked in produce throughout the stores and the warehouse.  Long time ago eh?

HAWKS   7    HABS   4

Now we got some goals, as the Hawks light up the Habs!  Having the time of his life as a second line center – John McNeilly with the deuce!  Sub Fouladbash also with a two goal game.  Singles for fellow sub Rupprecht, league scoring leader Zach Wagner and Dana Boyette.  Habs sub center Greg Kalvin, Lloyd Rogers and Steve Bayagich with the Habs goals.

SHARKS   5     HAWKS    5

Mike “King of the Road” Miller buries his second goal of the game with the goalie pulled, just under the one minute mark of the final period for the Sharks second tie of the day!  Singles for Frank “Crash” Casali, and subs Chris Isola and “Smiling” Scott Davenport, as the Sharks are now undefeated in their past five contests. John McNeilly with another two goal game for the Hawks.  Sub Rupprecht also with the deuce.  Zach Wagner with a single, as the Hawks are undefeated in their past three doubleheaders.

BRUINS    3     FLYERS   2

Another strong game by Bruins goalie Ben Alcandro!  Jimmy Galloway, Joey Reiss and sub Frank Pedwaydon do the honors for the men in yellow.  Roaming defenseman Danny Rea with both Flyers goals.

WINGS    7     HABS   4

With plenty of rest after his game one early exit and treating the Habs defense like a puddle you splash through while trying to catch a bus – Mr. Rob Rowling with a huge four goal game!  Singles for Jeff Ivory and once again Paul Erikson and sub Scott Bozyk.  The Steve’s – Bayagich and Lemieux and subs Timmy Vaneckoute and Greg Kalvin score for the woebegone Frenchmen, who remain winless in their past 12 games!

Once upon a time in the 1971-72 NHL season, one team had three brothers on it’s roster.  They all played defense!
