THE 2023 MICHIGAN SENIOR OLYMPICS 70+ CHAMPIONS!

PLAYOFFS – WEEK FOUR

OH MY!

NOT TOO MUCH DEFENSE GOING ON TODAY, AS 58 TOTAL GOALS ARE SCORED

IN THE SIX GAMES!  AVERAGING ALMOST 10 GOALS A GAME!

HABS    9    SHARKS   1

Ouch!  The Habs run rampart over the Sharks!  The line of sub Kostesich(3 & 1), Paul Vioalssi(2 & 4) and Rob Montgomery(4 Assists) total 14 points in the game!  Speedy center Anthony Amato also with the tour du chapeau!  Oh – and sub Chris Ballach had a goal.  Mike Garlick with the lone Shark goal.

WINGS   6    FLYERS   3

As it turns out, the Wings clinch the top spot in the playoffs with this victory.  Deuces wild for Steve Bayagich, Nate Wagner and sub Keith Elsey.  Scott Chodun with the hat trick assist.  Marty Papesh, Trevor Wrobel and Billy Reiss do the honors for the Flyers in this penalty free game.

HAWKS   5    BRUINS   4

The Hawks jump out to a 5-0 lead only to see the Bruins almost complete the comeback!  Gotta give the Bruins credit, they did not quit and made it very interesting at games end!  Subs Scott Davenport and Dave Passwater both go twine twice.  Brian Moore with a single.  Mike “Padre” Nalepa scores twice for the Bruins.  Singles for Rex Baker and Jamie Smith.  Center Jeff Steiber with three helpers.  This was another penalty free game.

 HABS   6    WINGS   4

How bout them French guys!  They finally show up to the playoff dance with three victories in a row – but all the pretty girls are taken!  Anthony Amato replicates game one and scores another hat trick!  Singles for Paul Erikson, Paul Vioalssi and Rob Montgomery.  Sub Chris Ballach with three assists.  Scott Chodun and Wings sub Keith Elsey both with the deuce.

HAWKS   4    FLYERS   3

The lowest scoring game of the night!  Playing with four subs today – but apparently the right four subs.  The Hawks sweep on the day and catapult both the Sharks and Flyers into second place in the standings with a week to go!  Playing an all around great game – Hawks sub Scott Davenport with a 2 & 2 game!  Scott’s second goal was a beautiful neutral zone give and go with Brian Moore!  Brian Moore and sub defenseman Micolo also with Hawks markers.  Trevor Wrobel buries the puck twice for the Flyers.  Left winger Marty Papesh goes top shelf.  There was a dramatic ending to the game, as both Jack Leavy and Brian Moore of the Hawks lay their body out and block a shot each!  The double dip loss today has severely damaged the Flyers Championship game aspirations.

SHARKS   7    BRUINS   6

Continuing with the goal fest theme.  The Sharks badly needed this W to stay in Championship game contention, as they are now a point behind the second place Hawks.  The Sharks and Hawks will face-off in the first game next week, which will be live streamed on YouTube.  Seven different scorers light the lamp for the Fish!  Nate McNaughtry, Nick Piccolo, Mike Akins, John Cornish, Rich Artymovich, Mike Garlick and the late game winning goal by sub “Angry” Joe Ventimiglio.  “Angry” was quoted in his postgame interview: “Big time players show up in big times!”  Six different players score for the Bruins.  Scott Leslie, Steve Wink, Mike Nalepa, Jamie Smith, Mike Riddle and Jim Roble.  As in game one – Jeff Steiber with three assists.  The Bruins remain winless in their past three doubleheaders, with only one victory in the playoffs.  Getting ready for St. Patricks Day – Bruins sub Shane McKibben(See Picture Below) and the Sharks Nick Piccolo both with minor roughing penalties.
