WEEK THREE – PLAYOFFS

MIDWAY THORUGH THE PLAYOFFS, THIS WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO REVIEW THE SUPER ACCURATE CURTS CORNER PRESEASON SEPTEMBER TEAM PREVIEW.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE THE:

SHARKS IN FIRST PLACE WITH 12 POINTS:

SHARKS

This team will score and of course with Billy Mac Jr. in nets – can’t go wrong there. Having the top rated forward(Nate McCoughtry) and goalie(Billy Mac Jr) is a pretty formidable combination! But – the defense looks to be the major achilles heel on this squad!

BRUINS IN SECOND PLACE WITH 11 POINTS:

BRUINS

It appears Captain Rex Baker did his homework this time. Very solid team! Can definitely see Jeff Curran moved back to defense and either Craig Bastuba or Marty Papesh moved up to provide a little more offense. Nice squad.

HAWKS IN THIRD PLACE WITH 10 POINTS:

HAWKS

Shall I say – the team to beat! I love this team – balanced all the way around! Good goaltending, excellent defense and very efficient forwards! Ward Peterson in the fifth round – Please! What a steal!

HABS IN FOURTH PLACE WITH 3 POINTS:

HABS

Team looks like it will struggle for offense. Can’t see too much second line offense on this team. Dar could be a little busy with a wandering defense.

FLYERS AND WINGS TIED FOR THE BASEMENT WITH 2 POINTS:

FLYERS

Similar to the Habs on the offensive side – second line scoring will be very hard to come by. Defense and goaltending is exceptionally solid.

WINGS

Now – If this were the 70’s – look out for this team! It appears this squad is a little long in the tooth with six players including an aging goalie, who rescinded his retirement in nets, well into their 60’s! Maybe experience will work out, with some very talented younger players mixed in.

PRETTY ACCURATE PREVIEW- IF I SAY SO MYSELF!

HABS   5     FLYERS   2

The Frenchmen pick up their first W of the playoffs!  The Habs jump out to a 5 zip lead to cruise to the victory.  Kudos to Habs net minder Dar who has seen an onslaught of pucks in this playoffs.  Dar and his team played exceptional in this game!  How many times can this Super Sub have four goal games?  Mr. Rob Rowling with another four goal game!  Fellow sub Robbie Olmstead also with a goal.  Subs John Cornish and Chodin tally for the Flyers.

BRUINS    5    WINGS    3

The Bruins win their fifth straight playoff game as they spread out the scoring among five players.  Center John McNeilly scores just 14 ticks in the game to parlay with his three helpers.  Singles for Marty Papesh, Eddie Sudzina, Mike Miller and Chuck Bowers.  Ryan Boyette scores the Wings first goal followed by Sub Scott Bozyk scoring just 51 seconds later.  Steve Wink with the Wings final tally.  The league sends a get well wish to returning Wings forward “Angry” Joey Ventimiglio, who was last seen carted off the ice in a wheelchair!  The noticeably slimmed down “Angry”,  has returned from a three week D.L. stint due to a ruptured flank.

SHARKS   4    HAWKS   1

Both teams tied for the top spot entering this contest.  Rob “Rickie” Middleton scores for the Hawks just a minute into the game and the rest was all Sharks.  Dr. Nate McCoughtry with the deuce for the Sharks.  Singles for “Midtown” Mikey Brown and Donnie Rivera.  Puck stopper Billy Mac. Jr. was outstanding between the pipes.  Ward Peterson(Roughing) and “Jumping” Jim Leonardi(Cross Checking) hit the box in tandem.

SHARKS   1    FLYERS    0

Playoff hockey at its best!  Nate McCoughty scores midway through the final period for the games only goal.  Both goalies – The Billy’s – Mac and Schaugg put on a goaltending clinic for the rather large crowd in attendance.  Maybe it was the power outage and people had nothing to do?  Wouldn’t you know it?  Finally – the Flyers play a strong stingy defensive game – and then they can’t score!  One of those seasons.  No trips to the sin bin for either team.

HABS   5    BRUINS   5

This was a wild one as the Habs stop the Bruins five game winning streak!  After his four goal performance in game one – Super Sub Rob Rowling with the tour du chapeau for the Frenchmen in this game for a total of seven goals today!  Singes for fellow sub Kyle Lybecker and Al Pyc.  Bruins – Mike “King of the Road” Miller(2), John McNeilly(Another 3 Helper Game), Craig Bastuba and Jimmy “Jets” Galloway.

HAWKS    5     WINGS   3

2-2 entering the final stanza – then Rob Middleton scores his second goal of the game 39 seconds into the final period to propel the Hawks to the W.  Hawks singles for Ward Peterson, Brian Reath and Steve Lemieux.  Ray Tonelli(2) and sub Dana Boyette tally for the Wings.
