MICHIGAN STING WEEKLY UPDATE

AUGUST 16, 2016 – “R” LEAGUE

WEEK FOUR OF THE PLAYOFFS

BRUINS   3    HAWKS   2

Providence call up Kevin Mahon with a two goal game for the Bruins.  Teddy Evans with the Bruins initial marker.  Bruins puck stopper Mike Mostyn was excellent between the pipes.  James George with both Hawks markers.

LEAFS   4    HABS   1

The Leafs surprise the Frenchmen behind the stalwart goaltending of Brian Miller.  Bruce “Cooler man” Gooel with the deuce.  Singles for Keith Foucher and sub Matt Lawson.  Kenny “Primetime” Wilkins with the lone Habs goal.

STARS   3   WINGS   0

The battle for first place!  If the Stars defeat the Wings – we have a tie for the top spot in the playoffs!  That’s exactly what happened, as goalie Bobby Rutkoske was outstanding in nets for the Stars!  Stevie Lambert, Pat Collins and sub J “Magnum” Higgins tally for the Stars.  The high powered Wings were held scoreless.

BRUINS    4    LEAFS   2

Da Bruins score their first goal of the game 38 ticks into the final period and then Captain Bob “Bugsy” Watson tales over and records the natural hat trick!  Barry Piornack with the Bruins initial marker.  Sub Kevin Mahon with the hat trick assist.  As in game one – Keith Foucher and Bruce Gooel find the back of the net for the men in blue.

WINGS   5   HABS   4

4-4 entering the final stanza.  Then – Mike Ala scores the game winner for the Wings with less than a minute left in the contest.  John Zucchini and Dougie Roehl both with two goal games.  Habs – Dave Walters, Ben Haynes, Cam “Steamboat” Lawrence and “Gentleman” Don Courtley.  Habs Captain Kenny Wilkins picks up a holding penalty then expresses his innate displeasure and receives an unsportsmanlike penalty tacked on.

STARS   3    HAWKS   1

The Stars keep pace with the Wings as both teams are tied for first place in the playoff standings with one week(2 Games) to go.  The ageless Joe White – recording his first two goal game since George Gray had brown hair – leads the Stars to the W!  Pat Collins with the Stars final tally.   Goalie Bobby Rutkoske only allows one goal on the night!  James Chapie with the Hawks marker as they remain winless in the playoffs.
