WEEK THREE – PLAYOFFS

HABS   3    FLYERS   1

Goalie Sir Kevin Beebe and his French cohorts play an almost perfect game and clip the Flyers.  Sir Kevin was outstanding between the pipes!  Peter Gibb, Mike Ala and sub Steve  Lemieux score for the Habs.  Joe Plati scores for the floundering Flyers.  No trips to the sin bin for either squad.

HAWKS   5    SHARKS   4

Al Platt with the deuce for the victorious visiting Hawks.  Singles for James George, Bruce Gooel and sub “Jacques” Lemire.  The Steve’s – Dietrich(2) and Orr and Barry Piornack tally for the Fish.  John Perini with three helpers.  This game was a very chippy affair with seven penalties in all.  Mark Nuss of the Sharks picks up a solo roughing minor penalty.  Then Barry Piornack and the Hawks Howard Smith rack up roughing minor penalties.  Just saying – I don’t know if Barry was thinking too much here.  I know I ain’t messing with no six foot, seven inch former police chief!

WINGS  5    BRUINS   1

Big Brian Westenberg leads the way for the host Wings with a two goal game.  Singles for Mary Sell, Brian Belloli and Al Sparks.  Wings sub goaler Mike Allemon with a ten save game.  Sub Harke with the lone Bruins marker.  The Wings pick up an illegal player penalty – whatever that is?

FLYERS   3     SHARKS   3

This was a wild one as the touted Flyers snap their four game playoff losing streak with the tie!  Doug Wargo scores 34 ticks into the game for the Sharks.  The Flyers respond 16 seconds later with a cluster of three goals in less than a three minute span!  Smooth skating Steve Orr ties the game up with his second goal of the game for the Sharks.  Flyers – Joe Plati, Ben Haynes and Ronnie Meltsner.

HABS   5    BRUINS   4

The top spot Habs sweep for the day as the Bruins go in the other direction today.  PRIME TIME!  Kenny “Prime Time” Wilkins snaps a 4-4 tie with the game winning goal 27 seconds after the Bruins tie the game up 4-4!  Pete Gibb(39 seconds into the game), David Walters, and subs Steve “Mario” Lemieux and Al “Mike” Phipps tally for the soaring Frenchmen.  John “Hal” McRae with the hat trick for the Bruins.  Eddie “The Eagle” Higgins with a single.  A little fired up today subbing for the Frenchmen – as Steve Lemieux has a large family contingent in the Quebec area – incurs a solo roughing minor penalty.

WINGS   3    HAWKS   2

The Wings sweep for the day behind goals from Brian Belloli, Al Sparks and Marty Sell.  Bruce “Cooler Man” Gooel with both Hawks markers.  Both goalers – Wings sub Mike Allemon and the Hawks “Sugar” John Marchin with solid games in nets.
