CONGRATS TO THE FLYERS, WHO ALONG WITH THE WINGS WILL ENJOY A TWO POINT HEAD START INTO THE PLAYOFFS!

STAT LEADERS:

POINTS – BILLY HAGEN – 40

GOALS – SAM BONANNO – 22

ASSISTS – BILLY HAGEN – 22

PENALTY MINUTES – PAUL POLIZZI – 22

GOALS AGAINST – BRIAN MILLER – 2.21

SHUTOUTS – BRIAN MILLER AND BOB RUTKOSKE – 2

FLYERS   3    BRUINS   1

Game tied 1-1 after one.  Captain Ryan O’Rourke huddles his team together in between periods and tells his team, we are starting the final period with a “Super Line”.  In other words load up a line.  Sammy Bonanno promptly scores 19 seconds into the assembled “Super Line” for the game winning goal, making Ryan look like Scotty Bowman!  The lines were then put back to normal to complete the first place clinching win.  Sub Doug “Jeff” Beck strums in the Flyers initial goal.  Defenseman Al Phipps with an amazing 200 foot empty net bank shot for the insurance goal.  Goals against leader and shutout co-leader goalie, Brian Miller with an assist on the goal.  Joe Plati with the lone Bruins marker.

SHARKS    6    HAWKS   2

The Sharks top line of Eddie Higgins(2 & 3), General Robert E. Lee(2 & 3) and Bruce Gooel(1 & 2) total 13 points in the game and wreck carnage on the Hawks.  Bo Altherr also with a goal.  Points and assist leader Billy Hagen with both Hawks goals in this penalty free game.

HABS   3    WINGS   2

With the Flyers victory, the Habs play a great game and knock the Wings out of first place contention.  Mike Ala, Chris Raber and Brian Belloli do the honors for the Habs.  Ken “Debus” Debus with both Wings goals in another penalty free game.

WINGS   5    BRUINS   1

The goal starved Wings manage to dent the twine five times for the well earned W!  Al Sparks with the deuce.  Singles for Mark Smyth, Chuck Mouraine and David Herkowitz.  Shutout co-leader Bobby Rutkoske was outstanding in nets!  As in game one – Joe Plati with the Bruins only goal!

SHARKS   3    HABS   3

I’ve said this many times throughout the years.  Never, ever, count out a Kenny Wilkins led team in the playoffs!  Don’t be surprised if the Habs win it all again!  Sharks sub Scott “Bobby’ Mercer with the game tying goal with the goalie pulled!  General Lee and Steve Dietrich also score for the Sharks.  John Perini scores 47 ticks into the game for the Habs.  Mike Ala and Pat Collins with singles.

FLYERS   6     HAWKS   2

Ha ha!  Captain Ryan “Scotty Bowman” O’Rourke worked his magic again, as the so called “Super Line” promptly scores two more goals when assembled!  Then the lines go back to normal.  Goals leader Sammy “The Bull” Bonnano with the hat trick!  Singles for Al Phipps, Stevie Lambert and on a cross bar clanging shot – Ryan O’Rourke.  The Flyers score shorthanded twice on the same shift!  Billy Hagen and line-mate Jimmy George tally for the Hawks.  The Hawks were a very incorrigible team this game, as they kept chirping all game at the opposition, the referee’s and their own teammates!  Hawks goalie Paul Kaczmarek picks up a delay of game penalty as he freezes the puck in the far left corner.  Penalty minute leader Paulie “Knuckles” Polizzi of the Flyers incurs a late penalty and just heads for the locker room mumbling something about the referee’s.

When Norm Ullman was a rookie for the Red Wings in 1956, Ted Lindsay was still on the team wearing number 7.
What number did Norm wear as a rookie?
16
