THE 2023 MICHIGAN SENIOR OLYMPICS 70+ CHAMPIONS!

PLAYOFFS – WEEK FOUR

SHARKS   3     HABS   1

The Sharks and puck stopper Brian Miller play a strong game and defeat the French guys.  Steve Dietrich, Ben Haynes and right winger Randy Debeul tally for the Fish.  Mike Ala with the Habs marker.

FLYERS   2    WINGS   1

Pat “Crazy Legs” Berry and Jimmy George with the game winner, were the Flyers marksman.  Sub goalie Joe “Ricky – Hello Mary Lou” Nelson passed the audition.  Robert “Bugsy” Watson with a mad solo dash for the Wings unassisted goal.  This Flyers win put a serious crimp in the Wings Championship game aspirations.  This was a penalty free game.

BRUINS   4     HAWKS   2

Both Jeff Tracy and Steve Lemieux go end to end for a Bruins 2-0 lead.  Lemieux’s goal was a thing of beauty, as he turned the Hawks defenseman inside out!  Playing an outstanding game, the ever dangerous Sammy “The Bull” Bonanno scores twice for the Hawks and ties the game up 2-2.  Receiving a great cross ice pass from left defenseman Keith Lutz, sniper Curt Lesnau buries the game winner.  Steve Lemieux with an empty netter.

WINGS   6     HABS   3

Whoa!  Where did this Wings fire power come from?  The Wings score twice in the games first two minutes and never look back!  Mr. Robert Watson with a huge self admitted career five goal game!  The guy was flying!  Oh!  Doug Beck also scored.  Paul Giles with the hat trick assist.  Al Pyc, Barry Piornack and Cheap Trick guitarist sub Rick Neilson score for the Habs in this penalty free game.  The Wings still have hopes of leap frogging the Sharks next week for second place in the standings.  Albeit a slight one, as they are three points behind the Sharks and will be missing stud goalie Dave Gaskey.  Another penalty free game.

FLYERS   2     HAWKS   0

Inspired by the return of their Captain Ryan O’Rourke, who returned from a lengthy stint in the players assistance program, the Flyers sweep on the day!  Four minutes into the game, power play specialist Paulie “Knuckles” Polizzi buries the game winning goal as the Hawks Jeff Morton forlonly watches from the sin bin.  Pete Ludwig with the insurance goal.  Sub goalie Joe Nelson with the well earned whitewash!  The Hawks still remain winless in the playoffs!

BRUINS   2     SHARKS   2

A game of high magnitude as the Sharks jump out to a 2-0 first period lead, on goals from Ben Haynes and power winger Randy Debeul.  Randy was wondering postgame why he wasted all those years playing defense?  Jeff Tracy cuts the Sharks lead in half at the midway point of the final period.  With three minutes left in the game, Bruins defenseman Dougie Roehl sidles up to Bruins Captain Steve Lemieux on the bench and suggests moving himself to forward and sub Justin Brantley back to D.  Guess what – it worked perfectly.  That very shift, Brantley carries the puck all the way up the ice and feeds new right winger Dougie Roehl who absolutley fires a rocket into the net for the tie and the clinching of first place for the Bruins in the playoffs!  Both goalies – Brian Miller of the Sharks and Mike Schlimgen stood on their heads in this very entertaining contest, which very well could be a prelude to the Championship game in two weeks!

TWO SATURDAYS AGO, TWO MICHIGAN BORN GOALIES PLAYED AGAINST EACH OTHER IN THE SAME GAME.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THIS IS A FIRST!

WHO ARE THE TWO MICHIGAN BRED GOALIES?

PORT HURON’S JACK CAMPBELL – EDMONTON OILERS

COMMERCE’S CONNOR HELLEBUYCK – WINNPEG JETS
