THE MICHIGAN STING FAMILY EXTENDS IT’S DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF MIKE HUNGO!

MIKE WAS THE ELDER STATESMAN OF THE STING GOALIE CONTINGENT.

ALWAYS WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND A KIND WORD TO SAY, MIKE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED!

SAY HI TO SAM FOR US MIKE!

WEEK ONE – SECOND HALF

BRUINS   4    HAWKS    2

This hard working Bruins team recovers from a 2-0 deficit to score four unanswered goals and defeat the Hawks.  Rick Batchleder, Chuck Mouraine, Adam Godard and Doug Wargo tally for the men in yellow.  Left defenseman Randy Debeul played a strong defensive game.  Billy Hagen and Kenny Perko score for the Hawks in this penalty free game.

FLYERS    3    HABS   0

General Robert E. Lee leads the charges with a two goal game for the Flyers.  Robbie Porter with the Flyers initial goal.  Sub puck stopper Rick Chauvin stood on his proverbial head to record the whitewash!  The Habs looked a little lost this game without their charismatic and inspirational leader – goalie Sir Kevin Beebe.  No French highlights in this penalty free game.

SHARKS    3    WINGS   3

An up and down hockey game, as Sharks sub J. “Magnum” Higgins ties the game up just over the five minute mark of the final period.  Pat Collins with the Sharks first two goals.  With the most dangerous shot in the league – JP, James George and sub Mike Krueger, who went shake and bake five hole, score for the Wings.  Both goalies – Kenny Lipschutz and Mike Schlimgen with solid games in nets.  Another penalty free game.

HAWKS   8    WINGS   3

What happened to the offensively challenged Hawks?  Eight goals in a game?  Pretty amazing!  Deuces wild for second line center Keith Foucher and sub Bob “Bugsy” Watson.  Singles for Curt Lesnau, Tom Oswald, power forward Kenny Perko and at games end – Joe Plati.  Wings Captain Paul Giles was highly upset, when Plati did a pirouette with seconds left in the blowout and scored!  But who really should have been upset, was myself and Billy Hagen, as both of us were wide open on each side of the net, as the head down, tunnel vision, never took a shot he didn’t like – Plati, buries the puck!  With a smile on my face I said to Joe: “Nice pass!”  Paulie Giles went through the post game handshake line, but declined to shake hands.  Wings – James George(2) and Mark Smyth.  This was the fourth straight penalty free game of the night!

HABS   6    BRUINS    2

The Habs rattle off five first period goals and destroy the Bruins!  Seemingly recovered from his very serious life threatening injury – Mr. Mike Ala with a four goal game!  Jimmy “Boog” Powell with the other two Habs markers.  It was nice to see long time Sting member Bruno Tadolini subbing in nets for the Habs.  Brian Belloli and Steve Lemieux with the Bruins markers.  There was one penalty in this game!

SHARKS   4     FLYERS   2

Sting rookie goalie Kenny Lipschutz backstops the Sharks to the victory.  Ben Haynes, Steve Dietrich and subs Marcin Niecalek and “Magnum” Higgins tally for the Fish.  Robbie Porter and Steve “Honey Badger” Orr do the honors for the Flyers, as they split on the day.

What two things do current Red Wings Dylan Larkin, Justin Abdelkader and Luke Glendening have in common?

Scroll down for the answer.

All three are Michigan natives and assistant captains.
