FLYERS   4    HABS   0

1-0 Flyers entering the final period – then James George scores the natural hat trick for the Flyers as they defeat the visiting Frenchmen.  Goaler Mike Schlimgen with the well earned shutout.  No Habs highlights in this penalty free game.

BRUINS   1     HAWKS   0

A new Michigan Sting record!  Bruins net-minder Bobby “Just Give Me One Goal” Rutkoske records his third consecutive 1-0 shutout!  I’m sure sure a Sting goalie might have had three straight shutouts before – but not all three by 1-0 scores!  Congrats to Mr. Rutkoske and his Bruins teammates!  Adam Godard scores the power play goal in the games final couple of minutes, as Hawks forward Paul Ericson looks forlornly in the penalty box with his out of control body checking minor infraction.  Rutkoske also snapped the Hawks Pete Gibbs’s six game goal scoring streak!

SHARKS   5   WINGS   2

2-2 after one period, then the Sharks rattle off three goals for the W.  Steve “Barney Miller” Dietrich with the deuce.  Singles for Pat Collins and Barry Piornack.  Bob “Bugsy” Watson and “Scowling” Scott Leslie tally for the Wings.  Wings net-minder Mike Mostyn and Sharks forward Joe Plati both receive minor slashing penalties and exchange four letter pleasantries.

WINGS   2    HAWKS   2

Very appropriate this game would end in a tie.  The Hawks are now winless in their last nine contests – the Wings in their last five!  Bobby Watson opens the games scoring as he barrels down the open ice and scores his unassisted goal!  Three minutes laster Marty Sell scores for the Hawks to tie it up 1-1.  29 seconds laster Brian Westenberg goes top shelf and puts the Wings back up 2-1.  Scott Shurin bangs in the game tying rebound for the Hawks.

FLYERS   3    SHARKS   3

A well played up and down entertaining contest as both teams pick up a point.  As in game one – Steve Dietrich with the deuce for the Fish.  Eddie “The Eagle” Higgins with the game tying goal.  Returning this season from his long litany of health problems – Keith Foucher scores twice for the Flyers.  The leagues leading scorer James George with the Flyers initial tally.

HABS   2   BRUINS   1

It had to happen some time!  The Habs snap goaltender Bobby Rutkoske’s shutout streak behind the power play marker of “Gentleman” Don Courtley.  Steve Orr with the game winning short handed goal.  The Bruins offense held up their deal of the bargain, as they once again only score one goal in their fourth straight game!  Chris Zanke with the Bruins marker.
