LAST FRIDAY I ATTENDED THE LANSE CREUSE NORTH HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME AND

STUMBLED UPON THIER HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY.

SECOND FROM THE LEFT IS FORMER PITTSBURGH PENGUIN AND

STANLEY CUP WINNER STEVE OLEKSY.

CONGRATS STEVE!

HABS   2    FLYERS   1

Longtime buddies Kenny Wilkins and Don Courtley tally for the Habs!  Moncton call up Rick “Ticker” Chauvin shined in nets!  One of the five subs the Flyers had today – Bob “Bugsy” Watson with their goal.  This was a penalty free game.

WINGS   4    SHARKS   2

Glenn Boice raps in two goals for the victorious Wings.  Marcin Niecalek and sub Glenn Paraskevin with singles.  General Robert E. Lee and “Black” Jack Priauix tally for the Fish in this penalty free game.  Sharks sub John Zuccarini was foiled on multiple breakaways, to go along with missing a wide open yawning net!

HAWKS   3     BRUINS   1

The Hawks play a great game and prevail over losing their goalie Tommy Gazley in the first period to a hamstring injury.  The Hawks played one shift without a goalie, as the Bruins failed to get a shot on net.  Special thanks to “Smoking” Joe Polizzi who came over from the “A” pickup skate to fill in.  Former Indy car driver(Picture Below of his Detroit Grand Prix Car) Jeff Morton with the deuce.  Chuck Bowers with the game winning goal.

BRUINS   5    HABS   1

The Bruins pick up their first win of the young season, behind the two goal effort of Chuck Mouraine.  Singles for Joe Plati, Jeff Tracy and Bo Altherr.  Steve Lemieux with the hat trick assist.  Subbing for goalie Mike Schlimgen, who is recovering from a pickup skate lower body injury – Joe “Rickey” Nelson was excellent in nets for the Bruins.  The Habs score in the games first minute on a beautiful tap in from John Dooley, courtesy of a great right point pass from Al Pyc.  Things looked sort of strange this game for the Habs, as they had long time defenseman Barry Piornack centering fellow longtime defenseman Rick Batchelder on the right wing.  Just didn’t look right!  This was a penalty free game.

WINGS   3    HAWKS   0

The first place Wings remain undefeated this season as they play today’s games with nine players.  They had no sub for Bruce Gooel, who was rumored to be at the Stevie Nicks concert at Pine Knob.  Doug Beck, Paul Giles and sub Matt Lawson score for the Wings.  Dave Gaskey with the well earned whitewash.  No Hawks highlights.

FLYERS   3    SHARKS   1

All the scoring was accomplished in the final stanza, as Jimmy George and subs “Hans” Brinker and Bob Watson score for the Flyers.  Bobby Rutkoske with a strong game between the pipes.  Todd Schurman with the lone Shark goal in another penalty free game.

Moritz Seider of the Detroit Red Wings just recently won the Calder Trophy(Rookie of the Year).

Who was the last Red Wing to win this award?

Roger Crozier – 1965
