FLYERS   6     HABS   3

Providence call up Paul Violassi nets two goals for the Flyers.  Singles for left defenseman Sam Bonanno, right defenseman Al Pyc, John Dooley and Ryan O’Rourke.  Goal-keep Brian Miller foils a 4 on 1 and a 3 on 0!  Curt Bailey, Brian Belloli and sub Jimmy “Boog” Powell score for the Habs.

WINGS   2     SHARKS   0

Wings goalie Bobby Rutkoske stands on his proverbial head for the whitewash!  Ken Debus and Al Sparks do the honors for the victorious Wings.  No Shark sightings in this game.

BRUINS    4     HAWKS   0

Returning to his last season’s roots – Bruins sub goalie Rick “Ticker” Chauvin blanks the Hawks with his acrobatic style of goaltending!  Mike Lawson with a two goal game.  Singles for Mike’s son Matt and Bob Watson.  You knew things were not going to go right this game for the Hawks, when the Bruins score a goal without touching the puck!  A Hawks player shot the puck off another Hawks player deflecting behind their stunned goalie!

HABS    6    BRUINS   3

The Frenchmen right the ship this game as they dominate the Bruins!  Deuces wild for Mike Ala and Robert Stempian.  Brian Belloli and Mike Harke with singles.  Bruins – Bob Watson, Mike Lawson and sub Dougie Roehl.

WINGS   3     HAWKS   0

A double shutout for the Wings and the Hawks!  Bobby Rutkoske of the Wings racks up the rare two game shutout!  Nice job Bobby!  Now the other end of the spectrum – the still winless Hawks fail to score in today’s game’s and have only scored three goals in this young season’s four games.  Captain Paul Giles, Steve Orr and Mark Smyth dent the twine for the Wings.

FLYERS   5    SHARKS   2

Flyers goalie Brian Miller steals the show in this game as he thwarts the Sharks time after time!  Once again Flyers sub Paul Vialassi with a two goal game.  Singles for the league’s leading scorer Ryan O’Rourke and defenseman Al Pyc and Kevin Maguire.  The top spot Flyers remain undefeated on the season.  Big Ben Haynes and sub Mike Garlick on a beautiful backhand score for the Fish.  A very scary event occurred in this game as speedy Sharks center Eddie Higgins went head first full tilt into the boards behind the Flyers net.  Eddie was helped off the ice and visited the hospital postgame.  Hope all is well – Eddie!

Which NHL team once drafted a player that didn’t exist?

The biggest prank in NHL history occurred in 1974 when Buffalo sabres GM Punch Imalch selected star center Taro Tsujimoto of the Japan Ice Hockey League’s Tokyo Katanas in the 11th round of the NHL draft.  The NHL made the pick official, and it was reported by media outlets including the HOCKEY NEWS.  But Taro Tsujimoto didn’t exist.  In fact, his team didn’t exist either.  The JIHL had no team representing Tokyo at the time.  Imalch did not acknowledge the fake pick until just before the start of training camp.  The team even set up a stall for him and listed him on their training camp roster.  When the prank was finally discovered, the league was not amused as Tsujimoto’s name had already appeared in several NHL publications.
