WEEK ONE – PLAYOFFS

Hero of the night award goes to Danny Rea.  After coming off a win and a loss for the Flyers, Danny decided to partake in a beverage or two up at Kools.  Next to Danny was Patty Wosek.  While eating Patty stands up and utters he’s choking, arms flailing …. Danny sprung into action like a trained Ninja.  He grabbed Patty from behind and preforms the Heimlich maneuver.  A couple of pulls later the obstruction is cleared and Patty is once again to be feared on the blueline.  When asked about his medical training, Danny says … I saw a video once on TV! … Thank god for Canadian TV.

HABS   3    SHARKS   1

The Habs harpoon the Sharks behind the fine goaltending of sub Mark Lusczki who was sporting new goalie equipment today!  Rob Rowling, Pat Wosek and sub Jimmy Degan tally for the Habs.  Right defenseman Mike Atkins with the lone Shark goal.  Sharks sub Rob Aughe picks up a solo roughing minor penalty.

WINGS   5     FLYERS   4

The Wings  top line of Zach Wagner(2 & 2) , Steve Bayagich(1 & 2) and Terry Boyette(1 & 1) total nine points in the game and defeat the visiting Flyers.  Ken Klutz also with a Wings goal.  Flyers – subs Reich(2), Joe Tringali and Trevor Wrobel.  I had to sort of chuckle at the games opening face-off, as I started on right wing opposite Terry Boyette of the Wings on left wing and Kenny Schaeffler on left defense.  Well over 200 years of maturity there!!

BRUINS   2     HAWKS   2

This was a spirited affair as both goalies- Joe Polizzi of the Hawks and sub Bissell of the Bruins shine in nets!  Center Brian Moore with both Hawks goals.  Nick Piccolo scores shorthanded for the Bruins and looking very dapper today in his three piece suit – Mike Nalepa with the Bruins initial marker.  Scott Chodun(Interference) and Bruins sub goalie Bissell(Body Checking) get into a “How do you Do” and receive penalties.

FLYERS   3     SHARKS   0

With four subs in the lineup, the Flyers blank the Sharks.  Flyers goalie Gordy Nadolsky was stellar in nets!  Steve Wink(PP), Trevor Wrobel and sub Reich score for the Flyers.  It was extremely evident that the Sharks sorely missed their captain Dr. Nate today, as they registered only one goal on the day!  Eight total trips to the penalty box in this game as Steve Wink and Mike Atkins both hit the box in tandem with roughing minor penalties.

HABS    7    BRUINS   2

The Habs sweep on the day and unplug Bruins goalie Bissell in fine fashion!  Habs jump out to a 5-0 first period lead behind the tour du chapeau efforts of Captain Joey Reiss.  Rob Rowling with the deuce.  Singles for Mark Rogers and sub Eslinger.  Pat Wosek with the hat trick assist.  The Habs score three shorthanded goals!  Nick Piccolo on a nice wraparound goal for the Bruins and John Cornish scores into a yawning empty net late in the game.  Paul Erikson of the Habs took exception to Cornish’s goal and picks up a ten minute and 2 minute unsportsmanlike penalties and an early game exit.

WINGS    1     HAWKS   0

Not too often you see a 1-0 game in any league, let alone this run and gun league!  Wings goalie Dar lives up to his license plate on his Corvette(See picture below) and stones the Hawks!  Zach Wagner with the Wings marker and two hooking and one solo roughing minor penalties and an early game exit.
