MICHIGAN STING WEEKLY UPDATE

JULY 26, 2016 – “R” LEAGUE

WEEK ONE OF THE PLAYOFFS

STARS   6   WINGS   0

Howard Smith’s Stars make a big statement in this possible Sam Cupp Championship game preview!   Kudos to puck stopper Bobby Rutkoske, who blanks the high octane Wings and also picks up an assist. The Stars score three times each period for the decisive victory. Deuces wild for Mark Smyth and Stevie Lambert. Singles for Ronnie Meltsner and converted goalie Mike Charison. Zero Wings highlights in this penalty free game.

LEAFS   3   HABS   2

The province of Ontario scores a big upset over their Canadian counterparts. The Leafs score all their goals in period one, as checking specialist Dave Wargo(2) and Steve “Barney Miller” Dietrich do the honors. Brian Miller was stellar in nets. Mike Lawson and Jeff Tracy tally for the Frenchmen.

BRUINS   5     HAWKS   3

This doesn’t happen very often at any level of hockey! The Bruins score two shorthanded goals including the game winner, on the same penalty kill! When Teddy Evans was due to come out the box – Captain Bobby Watson told him: “No – you stay right there till the game is done!” Watson and Joe Plati with two goals apiece. Sub
“Magnum” Higgins with a single. Dave “Buckeye” Wahl(2) and Jimmy George with the Hawks markers.

WINGS   4   HAWKS   3

The Wings right the ship in this game, as scoring machine Chuck Mouraine dents the twine twice. Marty Sell and John Zuccarini also with goals. Jimmy “Boog” Powell(2) and the red hot Dave Wahl score for the Hawks, who drop a pivotal deuce today. Hawks net minder “Sugar” John Marchin and the Wings Marty Sell agree to disagree and both pick up roughing minors.

STARS   6   LEAFS   1

This fine oiled Howard Smith coached team, takes two today as they total 12 goals on the night! Deuces wild for Eddie “The Eagle” Higgins, Ronnie Meltsner and once again Stevie Lambert. No shutout for Rutkoske this time as he turns away 7 shots. Bruce “Cooler Man” Gooel with the lone Leafs marker.

HABS   6   BRUINS   0

Wow! Guess the Habs were a little ticked off losing to the Leafs in game one! They proceed to score 5 goals in the games first seven minutes, putting Bruins net minder Mike Mostyn in a foul mood for his scheduled anger management class later that night! Jeff “Dick” Tracy with the tour du chapeau! Big Ben Haynes with the deuce. Mike Lawson also with a goal. It was a very silent Bruins locker room after this encounter.

JULY 28, 2016 – “A” LEAGUE

WEEK TWO OF THE PLAYOFFS

WINGS   3     LEAFS   2

The Wings win their first game of the playoffs over the vastly under subbed Leafs! This poorly officiated game(5 Leafs penalties) resulted in two Wings power play goals, including the game winner. John McNeilly, Scott Bozyk and “Downtown” Jimmy Brown score for the Wings. Jeff Ivory and sub Chris Isola tally for the men in blue who drop their third straight of the playoffs and teeter on the brink of early Championship game elimination.

STARS   4   BRUINS   2

A nip and tuck battle only to see the Stars edge out Baker’s Bruins. Mike “King Of The Road” Miller with the trick. Joey Reiss with a top shelf laser goal. Slippery center Donnie Rivera with both Bruins markers.

HAWKS   4   HABS   3

All the games scoring was accomplished in the initial stanza. Al Pyc with the deuce for the Hawks. Singles for Lloyd Rogers and sub Hastings. Paul Violassi, Bob Rowling and Kyle Lybecker do the honors for the Frenchmen. Both goalers – “Smoking” Joe Polizzi and Scott “The Wall” French were outstanding between the pipes.

HAWKS   7   STARS   0

Oh my! If Dr. Nate continues his perfect attendance in the playoffs for the Hawks – who can stop them? Dr. Nate McCaughtry with a huge 3 goal and 3 assist game! Sub Hastings with the deuce. Singles for Dougie Roehl and John Shelton. Marty Papesh with three helpers. Get this! The Hawks score at the 11 second mark of the game. 19 seconds later they score again! Two goals in the games first 30 seconds! The rout is on! Absolutely no Stars were out tonight, as their three game winning streak is unceremoniously snapped!

WINGS   7   HABS   3

After dropping a deuce last week, the Wings rebound this week behind the inspirational bench tutelage of injured Captain Brendan Brosnan. John McNeilly with the hat trick. Recording his first ever two goal game ever – Mike “Bubba” Wilson! Singles for Scott Bozyk and defenseman Dana Boyette. Paul Violassi, Jeff Sands and Brian Moore with the Habs markers. The Wings benefitted greatly by the continuous coughing up of the puck by a couple of Habs defenseman! Habs forward Kyle Lybecker was not a happy camper and let those teammates know in no uncertain terms!

LEAFS   6   BRUINS   2

The Leafs win their first game of the playoffs and the Bruins remain winless and stay true to their regular season form. Mike Nalepa with a two goal game for the Leafs. Singles for Curt Lesnau, Mike Ala, Jeff Ivory and sub Chris Isola. Billy Mac Jr. with a splendid 7 save game! Who else – Donnie Rivera and Mike T. Brown with the Bruins goals in this penalty free game.
