MICHIGAN STING WEEKLY UPDATE

AUGUST 2, 2016 – “R” LEAGUE

WEEK TWO OF THE PLAYOFFS

BRUINS   2    STARS   0

No score entering the final stanza – then Joe Plati and Bob “Bugsy” Watson find the back of the net to send the Bruins to the W.  Bruins sub puck stopper Paul Kaczmarek with a workmanlike effort in nets for the whitewash.  No Stars were out tonight.  Stevie Lambert of the Stars and rookie Barry Piornack of the Bruins hit the box with roughing minors and ample opportunity to discuss Tuesday’s elections.

HABS    2   HAWKS   1

Another scoreless game into the final period.  Dave Walters and Ben Haynes score final period goals for the Frenchmen.  Rockford call up “Jumping” Jim Leonardi with the Hawks marker.  Both goalers Sir Kevin Beebe and “Sugar” John Marchin were outstanding in nets.

WINGS   5    LEAFS   1

The Wings come out of the gate quick with four first period goals!  Speedy Mike Ala with the deuce.  Singles for Marty Sell, Chuck Moraine and sub B. Westenberg.  Sub new minder Rick Chauvin with a nine save game.  Steve Dietrich with the lone Leafs marker of the short handed variety.  Chris Zanke of the Leafs picks up a solo roughing minor penalty.

STARS   2   HAWKS   2

The Stars reach far into their farm club south of the Texas border, as “Chico” Sala scores the game tying goal with the goalie pulled.  Ronnie Meltsner with the Stars initial marker.  Dave “Buckeye” Wahl and Rick Batchelder tally for the Hawks.

LEAFS    4   BRUINS   2

All the games scoring in the first period!  The Leafs upend the sub laden(5 Subs) Bruins.  Steve “Barney” Miller Dietrich with the deuce for the Leafs.  Dave Wargo and John Malkovich clone Mikey Declercq with singles.  Net minder Brian Miller played a stellar game for the men in blue.  Bobby Watson and Providence call up Paulie “Knuckles” Polizzi score for the Bruins.  As in game one – Bruins enforcer Chris Zanke with a solo roughing minor penalty.

WINGS   3   HABS   1

The top spot Wings win their third playoff game in a row as they receive goals from Mary Sell, Paulie “Jay” Giles and once again sub B. Westenberg.   Wings sub goaler Rick ‘Ticker” Chauvin again only allowing a single black disc behind him!  Kenny “Prime Time” Wilkins with Habs goal.
